KARACHI, March 6: A division bench of the Sindh High Court acquitted businessman Abdul Qadir Tawakkal in another accountability case on Tuesday.
The director of Tawakkal Garments (Pvt) Ltd was convicted by an accountability court and sentenced seven years imprisonment and fined Rs107 million in a case involving misappropriation of export proceeds. He was accused by the NAB of exporting garments to Hong Kong in mid-1990s but committed breach of trust by not repatriating the proceeds to Pakistan.
He challenged the conviction in the high court. The bench ordered his release. This is the fifth case in which he has been acquitted.—Staff Reporter
