PESHAWAR, March 2: Students of the Peshawar College of Engineering, Kohat road, staged a sit-in on the Fort road near the Governor’s House, demanding that the government grant autonomy to their institution.
The protesting students chanted slogans against the vice-chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, for his “discriminatory attitude” towards their college.
They first held a protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club. They then tried to march up to the Governor’s House, but a heavy contingent of police stopped them.
The students also demanded a uniform marking system across the country to end “favouritism” in educational institutions. They said they would observe a hunger strike on Monday if the governor did not meet their demands.
