Published March 3, 2007

KARACHI, March 2: Sindh police chief Jehangir Mirza has directed the Capital City Police Officer of Karachi and Regional Police Officers of Hyderabad and Sukkur to chalk out extra-ordinary security plan on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

He asked the police officers to prepare a comprehensive plan of alternative traffic routes for the occasion and publicise it through print and electronic media so people do not face a problem.

The IGP directed the district and town police officers to supervise the security steps and ensure effective patrolling and intensify snap checking in sensitive areas. He directed them to deploy additional force at places of majalis and with processions and also post volunteers from organisers.

He ordered the police officials to ensure steps for surveillance of Chehlum procession routes with the help of secret cameras and strictly enforce the ban on distribution of restricted pamphlets, banners, wall chalking, entry of ulema and their speeches.
