KARACHI, Feb 28: The Academic Committee of the Secondary Board of Education in Karachi on Wednesday decided the examination for class nine will start from May 15.

The meeting of the Academic Committee was held following the decision taken by the Committee of Chairmen of secondary boards of Sindh that the examination for class nine would be held under separate exam system after the governor’s orders to suspend the implementation on composite exam system for the time being.

Under Karachi Board, the Class IX examination will start from May 15 while the Class X examination will begin from April 17. Besides the Karachi Board, all other boards in Sindh will hold Class IX and X exams from April 17.

The Academic Committee meeting reviewed the syllabus taught in schools under its jurisdiction and observed that Book-II of Biology and Chemistry

had not been used during the year.

The meeting decided that the students of Class IX examination 2007 would be examined in the Biology theory, Chemistry theory, and Computer Studies theory from the new Book-I only. The theory paper shall consist of 75 marks and the practical examination will be of 25 marks. The practical exams shall be held on the 2006 annual examination pattern. Further the question paper of Mathematics shall be from old and new books giving a better choice to examinees.

The Karachi Board expects around 175,000 students to appear in the Class IX exam this year.
