TIMERGARA, Feb 25: A young man and a girl were killed on suspicion of having illicit relations in the Doag Darra village of the Upper Dir district on Sunday, residents and police sources said.

They said that Ihsanullah was attacked when he was returning home, while the girl was gunned down three hours later.

They said that the victims were neighbours and both were unmarried.

Police said that Ihsanullah’s brother Hidayat Khan had lodged a case with the Sheringal police station, accusing brothers of the girl of the murder. However, no arrests had been made.

Residents said that incidents of honour-killing had sharply risen in Doag Darra locality, where a jirga had decided last year that such cases would not be reported to police.

FIVE DIE IN ACCIDENT: Five people, including two women, were killed and eight others were injured when a coach fell into a ravine in the Upper Dir district on Sunday, witnesses said.

They said the ill-fated coach was on its way to Dir Khas town from Kohistan village when the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into a deep ravine.

Those killed in the incident are Minhajuddin, Mohammed Shah Khan, Ameerullah, Omar Bibi and an unidentified woman.

The injured included Shamsul Islam, Omar Gul, Nazia, Gul Sharif, Zahid, Ameer Rehman, Abdul Matin and driver Said Mohammed.

All they injured were taken to a nearby hospital where two of them were in a critical condition.
