SAHIWAL, Feb 22: Relatives of a patient on Wednesday evening protested against a doctor of the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital for allegedly forcing the patient to shift to his private clinic.
Patient Khurshid Bibi, 70, was admitted to the neuro-surgery ward of the DHQ hospital on Feb 15 for some problem in her backbone. Dr Tariq Chaudhry reportedly asked Bibi to move to his private clinic for an operation on her backbone that would cost her Rs 40,000.
Bibi’s son Ejaz Rasool refused to pay huge charges of the private clinic. Offended over the refusal, Dr Tariq Chaudhry came to Rasool and asked him to get his mother discharged from the ward. Then Bibi’s relatives protested against Dr Tariq Chaudhry.
Dr Sohail Ahmed Bloch, the DHQ hospital medical superintendent, intervened and assured the relatives that an inquiry would be held into the case. The hospital doctors, excluding Dr Chaudhry, conducted an operation on Bibi to remove her backbone problems.
Meanwhile, District Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz directed Dr Muhammad Ali, the executive district officer (EDO) for health, to hold an inquiry and submit a report to him.
ROBBERIES: Armed men looted valuables worth Rs 1.16 million from different people in four incidents reported on Wednesday night.
Four bandits entered the house of Muhammad Yaseen in Chak 90/6-R, pretending that they were security personnel and wanted to search the house to check illicit arms. They reportedly beat up Yaseen’s daughter Shamim on resistance and made off with ornaments and cash worth Rs 219,000 and a licensed gun.
Six armed men broke into the house of Rana Muhammad Iqbal in Chak 57/4-R. They locked the family in a room and took away cash and ornaments worth Rs 354,000.
A gang of 12 bandits targeted the house of Manzoor Ahmed of chak 175/9-L, who was married only two months ago. The bandits looted valuable including ornaments of the new bride worth Rs 480,000 from the house.
Four armed men lifted cattle worth Rs 100,000 in Chak 62/4-R. The cattle belonged to Muhammad Tufail.
Electrocuted: Qasim, a college student, was electrocuted on Thursday in Gujjar Ahata. The cause of his death is reported to be use of metallic string in kite flying.
