Ministers’ absence annoys speaker

Published February 23, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Taking notice of the constant absence of the ministers from the National Assembly session, Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Thursday observed that the ministers were not taking interest in the parliamentary proceedings and only enjoying perks and privileges.

“The ministers are only interested in flying flags on their cars and do not take interest in (National Assembly) sessions,” the speaker observed when his attention was drawn towards the absence of Federal Minister for Culture Ghazi Gulab Jamal during the question hour.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan said that the speaker had issued strictures against the ministers several times in the past, but to no avail.—Staff Reporter
