KARACHI, Feb 20: A suspected drug trafficker was injured and arrested after a shootout with police on Tuesday. Two constables were also hurt.

A police party was formed on a tip-off to arrest a gang of drug traffickers. As the police reached Pattar Ground in Zarrobi Colony, three drug traffickers opened fire. The police also returned the fire and suspect Shah Aurangzeb and constables Shakil and Nasir Mehmood were injured in exchange of fire.

Police arrested Aurangzeb while his accomplices Mukhtar and Laeeq Shah fled under the cover of fire. Police seized 1.1kg hashish and an unlicensed pistol from the injured suspect.

Jackson police station SHO Tanvir Murad said Aurangzeb was wanted in six cases, including a police constable murder case. He said the alleged drug pusher was booked in three more cases pertaining to shootout with police, attempt to murder and possession of contraband narcotics.

Meanwhile, two alleged masterminds of armed robbers were arrested from Super Market area by the Anti-Dacoity Robbery Cell.

Police said the ADRC received information the accused were present in Super Market. A raiding party held the suspects, Amir and Wasim. They said the suspects used to loot vehicles of pharmaceutical companies. A case was lodged against them with Super Market police station.
