PESHAWAR, Feb 15: A union council nazim was arrested here on Thursday after his application for pre-arrest bail in a kidnapping case was dismissed by an additional district and sessions judge.

The court of Mohammad Iqbal Khan pronounced that the applicant, Aftab Khan, who is the nazim of union council Galozai in Peshawar, did not deserve the concession of pre-arrest bail.

The nazim was charged with kidnapping a teenaged boy, Malik Mazhar, a resident of Hazar Khwani area and a 2nd year student in a local college.

The boy -- who was later recovered -- had been kidnapped from an area with the jurisdictions of Yakatoth police station on January 15, according to police. While recovering the boy, the police also arrested the alleged kidnapper, Adil.

The police claimed that Adil informed them that he had kidnapped the boy at the behest of Aftab because he had a feud with the boy’s family.

The complainant’s counsel contended that since the prime accused, Adil, had named the bail applicant, Aftab, during interrogation, he was directly involved in the case.
