KARACHI, Feb 15: Sindh Professors and Lectures Association while expressing concern over the scarcity of teachers demanded the appointment of lecturers against vacant posts by meeting legal requirements.

A meeting of the SPLA Sindh presided by Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan on Thursday urged the authorities concerned to fill all vacancies of teachers to ensure smooth academic process in the educational institutions.

Referring to the announcement by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and the orders by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), it said the college teachers should be promoted to higher grades in accordance with the university teachers’.

It said up to 500 teachers be promoted and the promotion order list be issued for them.

It demanded that following a suite of the NWFP government, all ad-hoc lecturers in Sindh should be regularized, besides issuing promotion orders of DPEs.

The SPLA further demanded that only professors of commerce subject be appointed as principals in the commerce colleges of the province.
