Philippines rout Pakistan

KARACHI, Feb 11: Pakistan’s downslide in tennis continued on Sunday when they suffered a severe blow by going down 1-4 to the Philippines in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group II first round in Manila.

Philippines, who led 2-1 on Saturday, completed the rout by grabbing both the reverse singles to teach a lesson to Pakistan.

Cecil Mamitt whipped Aqeel Khan 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 while Patrick Jihn Tiero sealed the fate by disposing off Yasir Khan 6-3, 6-0 in the two reverse singles.

Cecil Mamiit (PHI) bt Aqeel Khan (PAK) 6-1, 6-3, 6-2; Patrick John Tiero (PHI) bt Yasir Khan (PAK) 6-3, 6-0.

On Saturday (doubles):

Cecil Mamiit/Eric Taino (PHI) bt Aqeel Khan/Asim Shafik (PAK) 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.

On Friday (singles):

Cecil Mamiit (PHI) bt Jalil Khan (PAK) 6-1, 6-0, 6-1; Aqeel Khan (PAK) bt Eric Taino (PHI) 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7/1), 7-5.
