ANF seizes 208kg morphine

Published February 21, 2002

QUETTA, Feb 20: The anti-narcotics force (ANF) has seized 208kg morphine in the Shabian Nullah area, 88km north of Dalbandin in the Chagai district, on Wednesday.

The drug was said to have been brought from the Helmand province of Afghanistan to smuggle it abroad through the coastal area of Makran.

When ANF personnel raided a hideout on a tip-off, armed men opened fire on them. The ANF team returned the fire, which continued for half an hour.

The shootout ended when the smugglers escaped from the area, taking the benefit of the darkness. The ANF team found drug dumped in a cave, and registered a case.
