QUETTA, Feb 9: The Karez Qamaruddin incident was the result of a tribal dispute and was not a case of incursion by Nato forces, according to senior minister Maulana Abdul Wasay.

Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Friday, he said that the Zhob district administration’s report suggested that the cause of the incident was a tribal feud between tribes living on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

He said the MMA had always condemned the United States attacks inside Pakistani areas, adding that the alliance had vowed to guard the country against any foreign intrusion.

A tribal elder from the Muslim Bagh area Malik Haji Arsalan Khan Kakar announced to join the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) along with tribesmen supporting him.

Referring to the ordinance issued by the Balochistan governor for registration of seminaries, Maulana Wasay said while the constitution did not bar the governor to issue ordinances, there was no need for issuing the ordinance in the presence of the provincial assembly. He said the issue should have been discussed in the assembly before being promulgated.

"The seminaries do not promote militancy or terrorism,” he said, adding that the ordinance would not affect the functioning of the Madressahs.

On the Shariat bill, the minister said: “Our Shariat bill would be different from the Hisba bill because the office of the Ombudsman exists in the province and Qazi courts were already functioning here.”
