Gangs of robbers busted

SIALKOT, Feb 9: Sialkot district police have busted six inter-district gangs of robbers and dacoits and arrested 143 proclaimed offenders and 86 court absconders during January, 2007.

Sialkot District Police Officer Zubair Nawaz Chattha told a press conference at his office on Friday the police also recovered property worth millions of rupees, heroin, charas, 198 bottles of liquor, poppy, three kalashnikoves, 27 rifles, 26 guns, 23 revolvers, 134 pistols, six carbines and 1,294 bullets were seized from the accused.

The DPO said that the police also unearthed four distilleries.

MASS WEDDING: The Sialkot district government has announced holding of a mass wedding ceremony towards the end of February, 2007.

Sialkot DCO Rizwanullah Baig told newsmen that Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool would be the chief guest.

He said that all necessary arrangements had been finalised in this regard.
