Oil prices extend losses

Published February 9, 2007

LONDON, Feb 8: World oil prices eased on Thursday, after heavy losses the previous day, as traders continued to assess the latest snapshot of US energy stockpiles amid frosty weather in the northern hemisphere.

In London, the price of Brent North Sea crude for March delivery slipped 23 cents to $57.00 per barrel in electronic deals.

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in March, slid six cents to $57.65 per barrel in pit trading.

“Oil will hover around the $55-58 mark for a while unless we see something that’s likely to spike it,” said Global Insight analyst Simon Wardell.—AFP
