KHAIRPUR, Feb 4: DPO of Khairpur Noorul Haq has suspended three police constables, Qalandar Bux Shaikh, Mohammad Ismail Shaikh and Ali Hassan Shaikh on charges of participating in a karo-kari jirga.

He told reporters on Saturday night that the policemen were nominated in an FIR against the jirga, which declared two men and two women as karo-kari and gave two minor girls in marriage to the aggrieved families as compensation.

Gambat police said that they had arrested two constables, Qalandar Bux Shaikh and Mohammad Ismail Shaikh, who were among 11 people nominated in the FIR.

The third constable, Ali Hassan, and others would soon be arrested, police said.

Police, however, failed to find two women, Ms Farzana Shaikh and Ms Zahida Shaikh, who were divorced by their husbands after the jirga had declared them

karis on January 2.
