LAHORE, Feb 2: Danyal Jehangir led the way with a fine card of two-under-par-70 on the first day of the 23rd Governor's Golf Cup at the Lahore Gymkhana course on Friday.

Danyal showed considerable potential and had three birdies, two on first nine hole and one on back. He first birdied at the 7th hole and after completing the 8th hole at par went on to add another birdie on the 9th to finish the first round. On back nine, Danyal bagged a birdie on the 11th to romp home.

Closing in on Danyal were Murad Khan and Salman Jehangir who are only one stroke behind him now to be at the joint second spot with one-under-par-71.

Murad could have been the possible leader of the day had he not lost his command and control on the 4th hole where he lost four strokes. Murad, who earlier had earned a birdie on the 3rd, however, regained his composure and belted another birdie on the 5th, following by one each more on the 13th and the 15th.

Salman Jehangir, had three birdies at the 5th, 8th and the 16th.

At 72, a tough competition is on among four condenders, who posted identical card of par-72. Among them are Waleed Zubair, Omar Azim, Amer Mehmood and Mohsin Jafar.

Also in the fray for the top position are Haider Malhi , Samsaan Qadir and Irfan Mian, who all entered card of one-under-par 73, each. Dr Zahid Khan and Farrukh Piracha are bracketed with identical score of 74.

The two-day ladies event starts on Saturday along with one-day competition of veterans and seniors.
