PESHAWAR, Feb 1: The NWFP government has directed its officials to devise a comprehensive plan to cater for emergencies effectively.

According to a handout, Health Minister Inayatullah Khan issued this directive on Thursday during a meeting which was attended by the health department officials.

He asked the officials to submit a detailed proposal for utilising ambulances of all public sector hospitals during emergencies. Similarly, he ordered preparation of a plan for reorganizing the Casualty Unit of Lady Reading Hospital.

Similarly, the concerned authority was directed to compile proposals for the establishment of community health centres, appointment of doctors at district level, enhancement of funds for the provision of medicines to Basic Health Units and procurement of quality drugs for public sector hospitals.

Mr Khan also asked for immediate removal of contract doctors who have not reported for duty yet, and directed to advertise for vacant posts.

He asked for more seats for the candidates of Kohistan district in paramedics’ institutes, refresher courses for the EPI, malaria technicians and dispensers.
