KARACHI, Jan 31: The Site Town police busted two gangs of bandits and arrested eight persons. Police said both gangs were involved in several robberies and mobile snatching incidents.

According to Town Police Officer Javed Akbar Riaz, four men were arrested on a tip-off and the police seized 12 snatched cellular phones, four pistols and a motorcycle from them. The TPO said the gang mainly indulged in mobile phone snatching. “They also snatched mobiles from passengers of minibuses”, he said.

The suspects, all in their early 20s, hailed from the NWFP and were residing in Frontier Colony, Site. They were identified as Hayat, Tajdar, Habibullah and Maulvi Raj Mohammed.

The police busted another gang and arrested four men. Police said the gang used to commit robberies in houses. Noor Nawaz, Jan Ali Khan, Abrar Mohammed and Shah Fahad were arrested by the police.

The TPO said the gang looted valuables from Ali Hasan’s house on January 26 after taking his family hostage at gunpoint. The police recovered the looted property from them which included a TV set, a tape-recorder, domestic appliances and wrist watches.

In another case, Pirabad police arrested two drug traffickers and seized hashish from them. Fateh Mohammed was found in possession of 1.25 kgs hashish while Akhtar Malik, was in possession of 1.18 kgs hashish.
