SAHIWAL, Jan 29: Four people were killed and 28 others injured as a bus overturned on Sunday night near Chak 111/7-R on Ravi bridge on Chichawatni-Faisalabad Road. It is learnt that the bus (STD-7976), with devotees of Baba Farid Shakarganj, after paying homage at Pakpattan, was returning to Hazrat Sultan Bahoo in Jhang when the accident took place due to dense fog.

The dead have been identified as Jamshed, Iftikhar, Irfan, 12, and an unidentified youth. Of the 28 injured, the condition of Noor Ahmad, Niamat, Imran, Sadiq, Ejaz, Farid Husain, Ms Sughran, Ms Najma, Israr and Murid Husain is stated to be serious in the Chichawatni and Sahiwal hospitals.

Chichawatni Saddar police have registered a case with no trace of the bus driver.

ROBBER CAUGHT: Residents of Chak 72/5-L injured a cattle lifter in an encounter, caught him and handed over to police. However, his four accomplices made good their escape.

They told police that the cattle lifters stole two buffaloes from the dera of Afzal Moghal. He raised an alarm and the villagers and the robbers traded fire which left Zahid injured. His accomplices escaped leaving buffaloes behind.

Zahid was admitted to the Sahiwal DHQ hospital.

Yusafwala police registered a case against Zahid, Yaqoob, Faqir Husain, Ghulam Nabi and Shanti.

ACCIDENT: A serving colonel and his two daughters suffered injuries in an accident on Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road near Seed Corporation office on Monday night.

Col Shafqat Taimor was going to Baba Farid’s shrine in Pakpattan by his car. His car collided with a tractor trolley due to fog as a result of which the colonel and his daughters Fatima, 5, and Aisha, 8, were seriously injured.
