HYDERABAD, Jan 29: Police have so far made no headway into the whereabouts of a Sindh University student Ms Yusra who went missing at the university on January 19. Her family suspects she has been kidnapped.

Investigating police officials on Monday expressed the hope that they would soon be able to get hold of Sultan Shah and Sheeraz Channa accused by the family of involvement in Yusra’s kidnapping.

Employing their old methods police took Mr Sheeraz’s father in their custody to pressure the accused to surrender but it proved useless. On Monday police escorted Farooq Channa, Sheeraz’s father, to Wahdat Colony to help force his son to surrender but the attempt failed, said a police source.

"We are hopeful that we will be able to pick up Sheeraz and Sultan within next 48 hours. We could not do so thus far because we were busy making security arrangements in connection with Muharram in the wake of two suicide bombings in Islamabad and Peshawar," said an investigating officer.

He dismissed reports that police had already found the girl and now they were trying make reconciliation between the two parties.

Yusra’s father Sardar Siddiqui told Dawn that he did talk to his daughter a day earlier but all she could only manage to say was she was all right and would return home soon but when he tried to talk to her this day her cell was powered off.

Ms Yusra, a second year student of Sindh University, had gone missing on the campus on January 19. Her father called police three days after trying to reach her. He has nominated Sultan Shah and Sheeraz Channa in the FIR as principal accused in her daughter’s suspected kidnapping.
