Police to use bullet-proof jackets

TANK, Jan 27: Police have received orders to use bullet-proof jackets following a series of attacks on law-enforcement personnel in the district bordering the volatile South Waziristan Agency.

A statement issued here on Saturday said that District Police Officer Atiqullah Wazir had issued directives to the police to take precautionary measures and enhance security in the area.

The directives had been issued in the wake of growing attacks on the police and deteriorating law and order situation in the area.

Law-enforcement agencies had been ordered to remain vigilante to cope with the situation.Mr Wazir, the statement said, had also directed managers of commercial banks in the town to increase security and depute additional police forces outside their banks.
