FAISALABAD, Jan 25: The House Building Finance Corporation (HBFC) will set up a ‘Shelter Foundation Cell’ in the district to provide complete houses on cheap rates to poor people.

Governor Khalid Maqbool stated this after inaugurating the HBFC zonal office building in Madina Town here on Thursday.

He said HBFC was releasing Rs20 billion loan for house construction of which only Rs3 billion were being given to the under-privileged segment of society. The amount would be enhanced, he added.

It was not possible for the people with meager resources to build their own homes but the government was committed to provide homes to the people and the HBFC had been given instructions in this regard.

The governor directed the district administration to earmark a piece of land for the construction of homes under the Shelter Foundation.

CONVOCATION: Earlier, addressing the sixth convocation of the Punjab Medical College, he said the government was struggling hard for strengthening health sector to provide facilities to masses.

He said about 25 per cent people have been suffering from different diseases and most of them were curable. Quacks were responsible for spreading diseases and people should be aware of all such people who were playing with their health. Incentives were being given to doctors and a handsome amount was also being spent to improve the rural health centers, he said, adding the government focused on the improvement of medical education and hospitals.

He said the College for Paramedics and Nursing would soon be upgraded and postgraduate diploma in medical technology would be initiated. The NFC Institute of Chemical Engineering would be given the status of university from the next academic year. The PMC principal has been given powers to fill up the vacant posts on contract basis, he added.

Governor Maqbool was all praise for the doctors and said they earned good name for the country while serving in other countries.

He announced a grant of Rs17 million for the PMC library.
