HARIPUR, Jan 25: Haripur district nazim Yousaf Ayub Khan has said that the construction work on a cricket stadium in the district will begin next month. The district government has acquired 53 kanals of land from the Pakistan Railways for this purpose.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, the nazim said that the railway authorities had signed the lease documents for the Railway Cricket Stadium. The project will cost Rs40 million.

Mr Khan said that a national urban development programme had been launched to provide potable water to the people of the district. Under the programme, the district government will carry our various uplift projects, including laying of new sewerage and water supply lines, garbage disposal, construction of intra-city roads and streets of urban union councils.

The nazim said that the district government and Save the Children, US, had singed a memorandum of understanding for jointly running a women and children hospital at the Basic Health Unit, Meelam.

He expressed the hope that the joint venture would provide better healthcare facilities in the district.
