PESHAWAR, Jan 24: Police officers working on technical posts at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) of the police department are awaiting promotion for a long time, sources say.
“There has been no promotion since the appointment of deputy medical superintendents (DSPs) in 1978,” the sources at the FSL said.
They said that last year the government had promoted 135 DSPs, but the FSL officers were ignored on the plea that they had been placed under separate cadre.
The officers working in the telecommunication wing of the police department have been given quota for promotion in the regular police on the basis of their strength.
“If one per cent quota is given to the FSL, 10 officers will get promotion,” said a source, adding that two DSPs were working in BPS-17 as chemical analysts.
Every year, the government promoted 50-60 DSPs to SPs, while those working on technical posts as DSPs were being ignored, the sources said, adding that irony of the fact was that an SP from the regular police acted as director of the FSL.
