MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 23: An ad hoc judge of the AJK Supreme Court was appointed as a permanent judge while two senior lawyers were inducted as judges of the AJK High Court.

According to law department notifications issued here on Tuesday, the appointments were made by Azad Kashmir President Raja Zulqarnain Khan on the advice of the AJK Council, headed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and in consultation with the respective chief justices, as envisaged by the Azad Kashmir’s interim constitution.

Khwaja Shahad Ahmed, who had been working as an ad hoc judge in the apex court for quite some time, was appointed as a permanent judge. He would be administered oath of office by Chief Justice Reaz Akhtar Chaudhry in Mirpur on Thursday.

Raja Rafiullah and Mohammad Younas Tahir were appointed as high court judges.

They would be administered oath of office here on Wednesday by Acting Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Nawaz Khan.

Despite the appointment of two new judges, one more judge still needed to be appointed to the AJK High Court as stipulated in the relevant law.
