LAHORE, Jan 23: PML-N secretary-general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra says his party is in favour of a step-by-step approach for the restoration of real democracy.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the PML-N wanted all opposition parties to launch a movement to dislodge the rulers so that some way could be paved for a government of national consensus.

All parties and their leaders, including the two former prime ministers, should be allowed to contest the next elections, he said.

Jhagra said various parties participating in the multi-party conference (MPC) would exchange views on all options and take appropriate decisions.

Jhagra, who is also secretary-general of the ARD, said all opposition parties were of the opinion that ouster of Gen Musharraf was necessary for honest and transparent elections, and the proposed MPC would provide the participants with an opportunity to devise an effective strategy to achieve this goal.
