PESHAWAR, Jan 21: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai said on Sunday that Fata would get natural gas facility in two phases. In the first phase, he said, most parts of the tribal area would get gas from the Gurguri gas fields.

He was talking to S. M. Hasnain, general manager of the SNGPL, Peshawar, who called on him at the Governor’s House to discuss matters relating to the supply of natural gas to different parts of the NWFP and Fata from the Gurguri gas fields of the Karak district.

The governor said that at the inauguration ceremony of gas distribution in Karak on Jan 6, approval had also been sought from the president for supply of gas to a large portion of Fata and some additional parts of the NWFP.

The governor said that in the first phase, gas would be supplied to Thal, Dogar, Parachinar, Frontier Regions Kohat and Peshawar, and Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur agencies. In the second phase, he said, gas would be supplied to North Waziristan Agency and South Waziristan Agency.

He said provision of gas to maximum parts of Fata would help conserve forests because people in these areas would stop using wood as fuel.—APP
