KARACHI, Jan 21: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Sunday announced that a flyover between Jauhar Mor and the Millennium Mall would be constructed to ease the traffic load on Rashid Minhas Road and in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

He was addressing a ceremony at Jauhar Chowrangi after laying foundation stone for a project under which a 33-inch diameter pipeline is being laid to provide an additional 3mgd (million gallons daily) water to the residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The leaking water and sewerage pipelines in the locality are being replaced and battered roads of Gulistan-i-Jauhar rebuilt at an estimated cost of Rs550 million.

The Nazim said that work on the proposed Jauhar flyover project would commence within the next two-three months, and said that the planning for the project had already been completed.

He said that the commissioning of the flyover would solve the problem of chaotic traffic and prolonged jams at the Jauhar Mor on a permanent basis.

He pointed out that the residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar had been facing persistent water shortage for long. The city, he added, realised the situation and decided to resolve the chronic problem and upgrade this locality by spending billions of rupees.

He said a sum of Rs60 million was being spent on the rehabilitation of the sewerage system while another Rs390 million on the road network in the area.
