KASUR, Jan 19: Construction of a shopping center on the graveyard adjacent to the shrine of Bulleh Shah has been stopped under public pressure. This was told at a meeting held in the office of the district naib nazim on Friday.

It was told that an inquiry team had been set up to look into the mega Bulleh Shah project and embezzlements at shrines in the district.

The naib nazim said the project, which was conceived in 2001, included expansion of the shrine, construction of a conference hall, a guesthouse and a complex, had not been completed even after the lapse of five years. He said the committee would look into reasons of this inordinate delay and use of sub-standard material..

He said the committee would also ensure that no fair took place on the premises of the graveyard.

POS HELD: Kasur police claimed on Friday to have arrested 39 Pos, 24 court absconders and 20 others for possessing illicit arms during a general holdup.

They seized a snatched car (LWO-5687), illegal weapons and narcotics from the arrested criminals.
