JACOBABAD, Jan 19: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) has disconnected power supply to several provincial and federal government departments in many districts of the province during a campaign for recovering millions of rupees they owed to the company.
Hesco officials disconnected power supply to several defaulting government departments here on Friday.
Hesco Executive Engineer Munawar Nazir Abbasi told reporters that the defaulting departments owed the company an amount of Rs73.573 million till December 2006.
Giving break-up of the dues, he said that the town municipal administration owed the company Rs45.612 million, district government Rs15.43 million, local bodies department Rs14.2 million, health department Rs8.854 million, highways department Rs16.502 million, police department Rs6.56 million, education department Rs3.248 million, jail department Rs3.288 million, building department Rs291,000, commercial consumers Rs7.093 million, industrial consumers Rs14 million and Rs18.052 million were outstanding against domestic consumers in the district.
NAWABSHAH: Hesco targets to recover Rs200 million from the defaulting government departments of Nawabshah, Sanghar and Matiari districts in its campaign against defaulters.
Manager Operation Circle Nawabshah said that power connections to several provincial government departments had been disconnected in the three districts during last 48 hours and the remaining connections would also be cut if they did not pay up their dues.
He said that, however, connections to hospitals, water supply and sewerage departments had not been disconnected and advised the defaulters to clear their dues immediately.
He said that education department owed the company Rs13.4 million, irrigation department Rs2.2 million, SCARP Rs75.6 million, SIDA Rs15 million, local bodies Rs90 million and Rs4.25 million were outstanding against health department.
HYDERABAD: The manager of Operation Circle-I of Hesco Habibullah Khilji directed the company’s executive engineers to intensify campaign and disconnect power supply to defaulting government departments except for the departments of water supply and sewerage and hospitals if they failed to pay up.
He said that despite repeated requests, the departments were not showing any signs of paying their dues and making it difficult for the company to extricate itself out of the financial crisis.
He told a meeting held at the Hesco’s Latifabad division office on Thursday that different federal and provincial government departments owed the company Rs812.255 million.
He said that only in his area Rs178.438 million was outstanding against federal government offices and Rs633.87 million against provincial government departments and establishments.
An official informed the meeting that 91 connections of defaulting government departments had been cut so far.
