PESHAWAR, Jan 18: The alleged illegal detention of an education institute chief by an intelligence agency has been challenged in the Peshawar High Court. A habeas corpus petition was filed on Thursday by Ms Ayesha, wife of the detainee, Qari Subhanullah, praying the court to issue directives for the production of her spouse in the court and to set him free.

The detainee was allegedly picked by officials of an intelligence agency accompanied by local police officials from his residence at Dura Road in the limits of the Gulbahar police station on the night between Jan 14 and 15.

The petitioner stated that her husband was a law abiding citizen and had no connection with any extremist group or organisation.

The detainee is supervisor of Iqra Rozatul Atfal, an educational institution.

The respondents in the petition are the Inter-Service Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Crimes Investigation Department, Crimes Investigation Agency, the ninistry of interior, the SSP Peshawar and the SHO of Gulbahar police station.

The petition, filed by Khursheed Ahmad Shahan, stated that the officials of intelligence agency accompanied by officials of other law-enforcement agencies had raided the petitioner’s house after midnight. The petitioner alleged that the officials had scaled their outer walls without any search warrant.

She stated that the raiding team violated the sanctity of her home by entering the residence without permission. She said that the officials had continued to search their residence for some hours but could not found anything objectionable.

Ms Ayesha stated that so far, the detainee had not been produced before any court of law. The petitioner stated that if the detainee was required in any case, the agencies should have adopted proper course of law and produced the detainee before the court.
