KARACHI, Jan 18: The IGI and Fomma will pay tributes to Bashir Mirza, Pakistan’s renowned artist, on Friday January 19, at Fomma DHA Art Centre at Zamzama Park Clifton at 5pm. A graduate of the National college of Art, Lahore, and a protégé of avant garde artist and principal of NCA, Shakir Ali, Bashir Mirza was born in Amritsar in 1941. Bashir Mirza enjoys a place of prestige among the master painters of Pakistan.

He was equally gifted in drawing as well as painting. Oils and acrylics were both mediums he was extremely comfortable in.

Besides being in the vanguard of painters in Pakistan, he also was the first to set up an art gallery, Atelier BM, and to bring out an art magazine. He died in January 2000.
