KARACHI, Jan 17: Deputy Secretary-General of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Qari Sher Afzal and Maulana Abdul Karim Abid on Wednesday condemned the military operation in Waziristan and alleged that the government was killing innocent citizens in the name of terrorists and extremists.

Speaking to JUI Shura member Haji Muhammad Idrees during their visit to the Al-Khair Trust, they warned the government that if the military operation in Waziristan was not stopped, it could have serious consequences for the country and would lead to civil war.

They alleged that the rulers were promoting vulgarity and obscenity by holding mixed marathons and basant programme instead of taking any concrete measures for resolving the basic problems like unemployment, poverty, price-hike and lawlessness.

The JUI leaders termed the `meagre’ decrease in petroleum prices as ridiculous and demanded that government bring down petrol price to Rs25 per litre.—PPI
