Harper helps team clinch Gold Cup

LAHORE, Jan 13: Four-goal James Harper propelled Six-T to an easy victory defeating Guard Filters 6 1/2-2 in one-sided final of the Warid Gold Cup on Saturday. The winners led the first chukker 1 1/2-1 due to half-goal handicap.

First Taimur Ali Malik converted a spot penalty near the goalpost to put the losers' ahead. But Harper salvaged the lead scoring in a similar fashion.

The second chukker was dominated by the losers whose Sameer Suhag pumped in a goal, converting a 60-yard penalty hit to lead 2- ½. But it proved the last laugh for Guard Filters as Six-T stormed into the match scoring five goals in next two chukkers, without conceding any to take away the title.

First Six-T made it 4-2 1/2- when Harper struck back-to-back field goals on solo efforts. Then Saqib Khan Khakwani capitalised a 30-yard penalty hit.

The fourth chukker saw Harper scoring his fourth goal, converting a spot penalty near the goalpost while Kashif Jamal pumped in one on field try to complete the tally.

In a well-contested match Guardian Securities earned third position defeating Army 5-4.

For the winners, Sattar Niazi scored three while Naveed M Sheikh and Hamid Ali Manan Added one each.

For the losers, Khurshid Ahmad scored two while Ashfaq added one.
