PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Tribesmen shot dead an Uzbek and wounded a tribal accomplice of his during a clash in Bakakhel area of the Bannu Frontier Region on Saturday, officials said.

An official said the two armed men including had snatched a car from tribesmen in the area adjacent to North Waziristan.

The tribesmen lodged a complaint with local Taliban and volunteers of the Bakakhel Peace Committee intercepted the car in a dry watercourse near Bakakhel.

The Uzbek and his accomplice hurled hand grenade at the peace committee members, which led to an exchange of gunfire, the official said.

The tribesmen captured the wounded man and the body.

The official said the wounded man was in Taliban custody and the administration would not intervene in the matter according to tribal traditions.

Local Taliban and Bakakhel tribesmen had constituted the joint committee to eliminate crimes in the area.
