PESHAWAR, Jan 13: An Afghan suspect was granted bail on Saturday by two courts in cases of carrying out rocket attacks here. Two cases were registered at Pishtakhara and Sarband police stations on Nov 9 and Nov 29, 2006, after some rockets were fired in the areas which had not caused any casualty.

Police later arrested the accused, Noorullah Khan, an Afghan residing in Sarband area, and charged him with carrying out the attacks.

The courts of additional district and sessions judges, Abdur Rauf Khan and Arshid Khan, accepted his bail applications.

Judge Arshid Khan ordered that he should be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs200,000 each, whereas Judge Rauf Khan directed that he should furnish two sureties of Rs60,000 each.

Advocate Shahjehan Khan appeared for the applicant and contended that he was framed in the case by the police as they had failed to arrest the real culprits.

He said that there was not a single evidence on record which could suggest the involvement of his client in the commission of the offence. Police had alleged that the accused was paid by a neighbouring country for carrying out the attacks.
