PESHAWAR, Jan 12: Scores of residents of the Hazar Khwani union council-I blocked the main Ring Road for nearly two hours here on Friday to protest against the unannounced loadshedding in the area.

Led by UC Nazim Hidayatullah Khan, dwellers of various localities of Hazar Khwani gathered at main Ring Road to express anger against poor power supply to the area.

They blocked the Ring Road and chanted slogans against Wapda authorities for the unabated loadshedding.

Addressing the protesters, elders of the area said that the government had released funds for electricity supply to the Hazar Khwani village from Rehman Baba Grid Station.

However, they alleged that authorities of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) were reluctant to do so.

Later, officials of the district administration held talks with the protesters and pursued them to end the road blockade.

The protesters announced a deadline of Jan 20 for converting their electricity connection to the local grid station, else they would not pay electricity bills.
