PESHAWAR, Jan 9: About 2,800 tribesmen will be recruited in the Levies force and trained in four batches by the end of the current year under the Restructuring and Reinforcement of Law-Enforcing Agencies Project in four tribal agencies.

Under the programme, 900 tribesmen each would be recruited in North and South Waziristan and 500 each in Khyber and Mohmand agencies, said a press release issued by the Federally Administered Tribal Areas Secretariat here on Tuesday.

So far, 3,000 law-enforcement agencies’ personnel have been trained under the project in all the seven tribal agencies.

Training of the ninth batch of recruits commenced on Tuesday.

Project Director Said Rasool and Project Manager Mohammad Nasim visited Jamrud, where a batch of 136 recruits would be trained under the command of Maj Abdul Rahim. The batch will complete its training in three months.

Mr Rasool said that under the project 6,000 klashnikov rifles, 100 machine guns, wireless sets and 50 mini-trucks had been provided to the law-enforcement agencies in the tribal areas.
