LAHORE, Jan 6: A member of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports, Enver Baig has expressed disappointment over postponement of the committee's meeting to investigate pathetic performance of the Pakistan contingent in the 15th Asian Games.

The meeting was scheduled to be held on Jan 12 to grill officials of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

“I am shocked to receive the postponement notice, dated Jan 6, of the meeting without any reason,” Enver Baig told Dawn from Islamabad on Saturday.

The meeting was important as the entire nation was eager to know what happened in the Asian Games.

Pakistan had failed to grab any gold medal in the Asian Games and managed to win one silver and three bronze medals despite having a heavy contingent of 204 members.

“The date of the meeting was fixed according to availability of the POA officials but I have some information that they have managed to escape from the meeting as they are not ready to face the Senate Committee,” he alleged.

Enver said he would write a letter to the chairman of the committee, Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal to express his disappointment and seek fresh date for the meeting.

He said if the committee failed to give him any appropriate reply in next couple of days, he would submit a requisition for the meeting, which would bind the chairman to call the meeting in 21 days.
