Athlete raped, strangled

LAHORE, Jan 6: An army man and his friend allegedly raped and strangled a young athlete in the Lower Mall area in early hours of Saturday. City SP Rana Ahmed Hassan said that the accused had promised the woman, 22, a resident of Faisalabad, a job in the Pakistan Army on a sports quota basis and brought her to Lahore.

In Lahore, they took her to a hotel close to the Data Sahib shrine where they raped and strangled her on Friday night.

The police have arrested one accused and registered a case on the complaint of the father of the deceased athlete. The body was sent to the city morgue for autopsy.

The SP said the accused army man belonged to Nankana Sahib. Posted in Parachinar, he was on leave these days.

A milkman was found strangled at his outhouse in the Shalimar area on Saturday.

Police said Rehmat Ali, 27, was at his outhouse at Shawala Chowk when unidentified people strangled him.

The body was removed to the city mortuary for autopsy while no case was registered till the filing of this report.—Reporter
