RAWALPINDI, Jan 6: The new motor transport management information system (MTMIS) will expedite vehicle registration process and help in checking vehicle theft besides making the access to records easy.

This was stated by provincial minister for law Mohammad Basharat Raja while inaugurating the MTMIS at the excise and taxation department here on Saturday, says a press release.

The minister said the new computerised registration system had been installed in six districts of Punjab including Rawalpindi. New computerised number plates along with original document can be obtained on the day of submitting the application and the registration book will also be prepared in one day.

He said with the help of a hidden computer number in the registration plate, stolen or tampered vehicles would be recovered swiftly.

He said on the directives of the chief minister public service departments were being modernised and records relating to revenue, birth and death were being computerised to minimise the difficulties faced by the public.

To change the old rules and regulations, a special committee has also been set up, he said.

Provincial IT secretary Nazir Saeed said under the MTMIS a new software had been prepared to improve the link among police, excise and taxation, transport, environment and other departments.

In the next three months, all record of Baitul Maal committees will be computerised and domicile certificates will also be computerised.

Speaking on the occasion, district nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas said the new system would greatly reduce the theft of vehicles. It will also help in speedy recovery of stolen vehicles, he added.
