KARACHI: World Scouts Day on 22nd

Published February 19, 2002

KARACHI, Feb 18: Over 25 million scouts in 153 countries, including 0.6 million in Pakistan, will observe World Scout Day on February 22 with full vigour.

It was also on this day that the founder of the scout movement, Lord Baden Powel, was born and this year the day will be observed as his 146th birth anniversary.

Lord Baden Powel had laid the foundation of the scout movement in 1907 and it became popular among children the world over.

All the nine branches of the Pakistan Boy Scouts’ Association (PBSA), including Islamabad, Northern Areas, Pakistan Railways, PIA and Azad Kashmir, have chalked out a coordinated programme to observe the day in a befitting manner.

Since Eidul Azha falls on 23rd, the PBSA has decided to carry out all the activities indoor.

The main highlights of these activities will include eloqution and quiz contests, besides visit to hospitals and centres of special children and orphanages.

In Karachi a get-together will be held at the PBSA’s international scout hostel, which will be attended by scout commissioners and veteran scout leaders.—APP
