LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 5: The district nazim of Lakki Marwat, Humayun Saifullah Khan, has taken notice of the adjustment by the provincial government of development funds in non-development expenditures for meeting the deficit in pay and allowances payable to government servants.

An official source in the district secretariat here said the nazim approached the provincial finance secretary to apprise him of the situation with which the district government was confronted due to the persistent deficit in monthly releases.

The nazim also informed the secretary that about Rs8.998 million was drained in favour of the non-developmental expenditures from the development funds while the provincial government had paid around Rs292.145 million in excess of what the actual dues were paid to the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) in the past.

Saifullah Khan said the “grassroots development” aimed at the devolution of powers had now turned into “grassroots deprivation”.

He called upon the provincial finance department to take notice of the situation and recompense the deficiencies created through its miscalculation with the Wapda.

He expressed the hope that the concerned quarters would release the funds meant for the district government without any delay.
