KARACHI, Jan 5: Former town nazims of the Al-Khidmat group have accused the MQM-led city government of using uplift funds for personal gains instead of utilising it for the uplift of the city.

They said, in a statement, that the city government had excavated roads and important arteries which were approved by the previous city government, without any planning, resulting in traffic chaos and causing mental torture to the public.

Besides, they claimed, inferior quality material was being used in roads’ construction.

They also said that the claim of spending Rs40 million for keeping the city clean on Eidul Azha was just an attempt to hoodwink people.

Had the amount been utilised for the purpose, the city would not have been presenting a look of a garbage dump, they added. They urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take note of the misuse of funds.
