SIALKOT, Jan 4: Dacoits and thieves took away cash, gold ornaments, electronics and other valuables worth millions of rupees in several incidents in the district here on foggy Thursday.

On Daska-Gujranwala Road near Ranjhai village, three unidentified dacoits looted jewellery, cash, mobile phones and other valuables worth Rs60,000 at gunpoint from passengers of a van (YK-815). According to the FIR, the robbers had boarded the van from Gujranwala city in the guise of passengers.

In another incident, four bandits came to a filling station near Ranjhai and drove away with a new car (LEA-8894) from petrol pump owner Saleem Akhtar at gunpoint. Reports said the robbers held hostage guards and looted cash and valuables worth Rs100,000 from passengers of a van standing there for filling. The accused got the tank of the snatched car filled with petrol and fled away leaving behind their old vehicle which had no registration number plate.

Daska Saddar police have registered separate cases.

At Dhalleywali-Head Marala, two dacoits looted cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs0.8 million at gunpoint from families of national hockey player Shehzad Sheikh and Sialkot Cantt former trader leader Gulraiz Sheikh by intercepting two cars on Wednesday evening. Both the families were going to Head Marala for picnic.

A case has been registered with no arrest or recovery.

Three robbers made off with a cash of Rs5,000, a licenced rifle and a TV set from a filling station at gunpoint at Akbar Chowk on Sialkot-Aimanabad Road.

Naikapura police have registered a case.

In Sambrial, three bandits snatched Rs100,000 at gunpoint from vegetable trader Manzoor Ahmad in Sabzi Mandi area.

Meanwhile, citizens have expressed their concern over the rising incidence of robbery during foggy conditions and demanded the government take steps to check crime rate.
