KARACHI, Dec 31: Armed men travelling in a rickshaw shot dead one of the two constables chasing them in Gulistan-i-Jauhar late on Saturday night.

A duty officer at Sharea Faisal police station stated that constables Syed Alay Hasnain and Mukhtar Ahmed, riding a motorcycle, started chasing the rickshaw as its driver tried to speed away when they signaled him to stop near Dubai Chowk, at the junction of Blocks 11 and 12.

During the chase, the armed men traveling in the rickshaw opened fire injuring Hasnain. The constables fell on the ground but Mukhtar return the fire. However, the assailants escaped. People who gathered at the scene rushed Hasnain to a private hospital nearby from where he was sent to Aga Khan Hospital. However, he died on the way.
