KARACHI, Dec 29: The government finally started an anti-encroachment drive by demolishing shops and houses along the 80 feet road from L-Block Chowk to the Eidgah Mor in Ittehad Town.

However, a number of people have complained that their shops had been demolished without any notice.

Amjad, a medical practitioner told this scribe that the work was started soon after marking on the walls and people could not even find time to move to safer places.

When contacted the contractor’s men on the site, Irfan, a sub-engineer rejecting people’s claims said that the work had been initiated after fulfilling all legal formalities and in proper consultation with local elected representatives.

It would be pertinent to mention here that the road from Eidgah Mor (Ittehad Town) to sector 12/E, Saeedabad (Baldia Town) is in a dilapidated condition with potholes all over it, increasing traffic problems.

The transporters have demanded of the authorities concerned to allocate funds for reconstruction of the road at the earliest.
