RBOD workers denied salary

Published December 28, 2006

THATTA, Dec 27: About 400 employees and workers of a private contractor company, engaged in excavation of RBOD in Thatta district, have not received their salary since last six months.

A delegation of workers told newsmen at the Thatta press club on Wednesday that the contractor Riaz Malik, who had been awarded five packages from Reach No.1 to Reach No.8 on the RBOD, has so far received millions of rupees from the government but denying payments to employees and workers which included helpers, operators and drivers as well as officials and engineers working on the project.

They appealed to the head of the project support and monitoring team, RBOD and the project director, to help release their salaries and wages as before Eid-ul-Azha.

DEAD PHONES: About 700 telephone numbers of Thatta and Makli towns turned ‘dead’ as a result of theft of an underground cable near Makli incline in the wee hours of Wednesday.

A PTCL official requesting anonymity, told Dawn that this was the fifth incident within three months in the district headquarter town, adding that this time, too, police tactfully avoided registration of FIR and sought cooperation to hunt the culprit.

Meanwhile, the operation staff of PTCL has initiated efforts to restore the communication system.
