PESHAWAR, Dec 27: Capital City Police Officer Malik Saad Khan said on Wednesday that the car used in Tuesday’s bomb blast near the Peshawar International Airport had been stolen from Islamabad. Talking to Dawn, he said police investigation showed that the bomb had been planted in a Suzuki car of 2005 model which had been stolen from the federal capital on Dec 16.

Further investigation is in progress, he added.

He said security had been tightened in and around the city after the bomb blast which killed one person and left two others injured.

Police carried out strict checking of vehicles entering the city on Wednesday.

"It will take a week to put things in right direction. Security arrangements in the city are part of a regular plan," said the city police chief.

Malik Saad said preventive steps were being taken to stem the tide of crime in the city.

Personnel of the Frontier Constabulary and the city police have set up joint checkpoints at various points in Peshawar.
